The Aboriginal people of Australia are the Indigenous inhabitants of the Australian continent and its surrounding islands. Aboriginal societies are diverse, with hundreds of distinct languages, cultures, and traditions separate from the majority population. The Aboriginal people have faced centuries of oppression in the form of colonialism, land displacement, restricted access to education/employment/basic rights, and suppression of culture.
Recently, the Australian government is making efforts to reconcile with the Aboriginal people through the acknowledgement of past injustices, promotion of indigenous cultural appreciation, constitutional recognition, initiatives for achieving social equality, etc.
Indigenous schools are exclusive to indigenous students and cater specifically to the educational needs and cultural sensitivities of the group.
